Fats that Strip Fat from Your Body
It seems common sense that in order to lose fat, reducing oils and butter and so forth in one's diet is the first step. This is true in regards to the consumption of some types of fats, but not all.
You need certain types of fat in order to lose weight.
Essential Fatty Acids: Weight Loss Wonders
They are called essential because your body cannot make them itself, so you must consume them. There are many functions that EFA's serve, but my focus today is weight loss.
1. Omega 3: flax seeds, walnuts, salmon, sardines, and soybeans.
2. Omega 6: eggs, poultry, nuts, and most vegetable oils.
3. Omega 9: Produced by the human body. Also found in animal fats and olive oil.
Not only must you consume Omega 3 and Omega 6 for good health, they must also be in the proper ratio to each other. Too much Omega 6 and too little Omega 3 results in health problems, including difficulty losing weight.
Omega 3 boosts your metabolism, makes your body want to burn fat instead of store it, and reduces the effects of stress on your body. These effects lead to weight loss.
The problem is that Omega 6 is abundant in normal diets. Most people eat nuts and cook with vegetable oils. Omega 3 is hard to come by in sufficient amounts if you don't eat much fish. It is really important to make an effort to eat more foods with a lot of Omega 3 fatty acids, or look for supplements.
Don't just take my word for it. Take a look at the research that is out there.
1. Brainy Weight Loss is a website run by a weightloss coach with all kinds of professional certifications. (I am not affiliated with her) The information on her website seemed to match up with the research I found in medical and scientific publications, all in an easy to understand format. View her informative page on Omega 3 Fatty Acids here.
2. Webmd has an easy to understand article about the other important functions of Omega 3's. View it here.
3.The Linus Pauling Institute has a detailed explanation of the importance of the Essential Fatty Acids. I highly recommend visiting the website.
